Meet the voices behind Callaghan Horiuchi: Haruka Horiuchi, AIA, Partner.

With a background in cognitive science and over 15 years in architecture, Haruka has led design across a wide range of scales and types — from custom residential interiors to large-scale developments abroad. That foundation shapes how she approaches every project at Callaghan Horiuchi: a deep curiosity about how people actually perceive and move through space, not just how it looks, but how it feels to be in it. It's also why the design process is rooted in research and observation, understanding real behavior first, so decisions reflect how people actually think and act.

Underlying this approach is a belief about what it means to be a trusted partner. "We want to work in partnership with our clients, whether owners or developers," Haruka says. "We want to be seen as thought partners,  thinking things through with our clients, not pushing a style on anyone."

For Haruka, that means staying research-driven and applying the best available thinking and technology in a thoughtful way. That posture, curious and evidence-based, is at the center of how Callaghan Horiuchi works with every client.
